We assess every device individually and honestly. Everything about our condition levels, how we assess, and what to expect from the battery.
Hej Refurbished specialises in refurbished laptops and other used business devices. Many of our devices come from the corporate world and were previously used under lease contracts, in office environments or business workplaces.
When these devices arrive with us, they are carefully inspected, tested and sorted by technical condition and cosmetic state. We look not only at functionality but also at visible signs of use, such as scratches, wear, keyboard marks, sticker residue or marks on the housing.
How a laptop was previously used affects its cosmetic condition. A device used heavily on the move may show more wear than a laptop that mainly sat on a desk with a docking station. That’s why we assess every device individually.
Our condition levels
From brand new to signs of use
The meter indicates the cosmetic condition. Every level is fully tested and technically sound.
New in original packaging
A brand new product is new, unused and delivered in its original packaging. You'll receive the accessories that normally come with the product.
The packaging may have been opened for inspection or checking. The product itself remains unused.
Like new
In exceptionally neat condition and appears almost unused. The palm rest, keyboard and screen show virtually no visible marks. There may occasionally be a tiny scratch, for example on the lid, barely visible from a normal distance. In practice, the device feels and looks almost like new.
Excellent
Very neat condition, often used relatively briefly. Light signs of use are possible but limited and without affecting use. At most very light marks on visible areas; the underside may show clearer marks or sticker residue. Fully functional and technically inspected.
Good
A neat device in good technical condition, with visible signs of use. The housing, lid, screen edge, keyboard or palm rest may show light to normal marks. Screen marks are usually light or only visible under certain lighting. Scratches or sticker residue may appear on the underside. Fully functional.
With signs of wear
Clearly shows the device has been used more intensively. Technically sound and fully functional, with visible cosmetic marks: scratches, wear, marks on the lid or palm rest, keyboard marks, sticker residue or light screen marks. Suitable if you mainly want a well-functioning device and cosmetic perfection matters less.
Honest & realistic
How we assess condition
We assess every device systematically, looking at the device as a whole.
Sometimes a laptop is in very neat condition on almost every part, yet has a visible scratch on the lid. In that case the overall condition may be rated lower, even if the keyboard, screen and palm rest look almost new.
That’s why we don’t just look at one part, but at the entire device. This gives you an honest and realistic condition description.
Battery condition
What to expect from the battery
We check that the battery works, but cannot promise a fixed battery life.
Battery life depends heavily on age, condition and how you use the device. Word processing, email or browsing use far less energy than video calls, heavy software or gaming. Screen brightness, background processes, accessories and power settings also play a role.
Since we don’t know in advance how you’ll use the device, we cannot promise an exact battery life. Any stated battery life may vary in practice.
How do we check batteries?
Upon arrival, we check batteries using manufacturers’ software and diagnostic programs. If in doubt, we also check manually. In some cases you can also choose a new battery in the webshop, and later you can also have your laptop fitted with a new battery by us.
Batteries remain harder to check than other components. They are wear parts: like car tyres, they degrade with use, time and conditions. A laptop unused for months may have worse battery condition than expected.
The displayed battery percentages and battery health are theoretical values. They provide an indication, but no absolute guarantee of actual usage time.
Warranty on the battery
We test, you're covered
The warranty means the battery must function, not the exact number of hours it lasts.
Used battery
Since battery values are partly theoretical and actual duration depends on your use, we offer 2 months of warranty on used batteries. If a battery falls below our minimum standard, the device is not sold with it.
New battery
If you choose a new battery, 1 year of warranty applies. We carefully test every battery and use an acceptable theoretical condition as our baseline.
When does battery use fall outside warranty?
Normal battery wear is not covered by warranty. A decrease in battery life due to normal use, age or intensive use is not considered a defect.
If a battery drains faster due to heavy programs, high brightness, video calls, gaming or other intensive use, this is not covered by warranty.
