Lenovo ThinkPad Lenovo's business line, refurbished
The ThinkPad has been built since 1992 for people who sit in front of one all day: a deep keyboard, a sturdy chassis with a magnesium frame and parts you can replace yourself.
What makes a ThinkPad a ThinkPad.
Where the build quality sits, which ranges exist and why it is this line we stock.
Lenovo's business laptop line, taken over from IBM and developed since along the same thinking: not as thin as possible, but usable for as long as possible. A magnesium roll cage inside the chassis, hinges tested over thousands of open and close cycles, and a keyboard with more travel than usual.
You recognise it by the small red button in the middle of the keyboard, the TrackPoint. It is still there because it lets you move the pointer without shifting your hands.
Because these laptops are built for a far longer life than a three year lease contract. After that period they come free with most of their life still ahead of them, for a fraction of the price when new.
And there is a practical reason: Lenovo publishes a service manual for every model and the parts are widely available. Changing a battery, a keyboard or an SSD is therefore no trouble, now or in three years.
The X series is the compact travel model, light and with long battery life. The T series is the workhorse: 14 inch, plenty of ports and the most common choice in an office. The L series is the affordable version and the P series the mobile workstation for computing work.

They sit close together: all three are their brand's business line and all three are far sturdier than a consumer model. The ThinkPad's keyboard is the nicest of the three, the EliteBook is better finished and the Latitude has traditionally had the most ports.

The letter is the series and the number the screen size. A T14 is the 14 inch workhorse, an X13 the compact 13 inch travel model, and the X1 Carbon the thin flagship. An L is the affordable line and a P a mobile workstation. After the number there is sometimes a generation, such as T14 Gen 2.
On most models you can. Lenovo publishes a service manual per model setting out which parts can be swapped and how. Memory and storage can almost always be replaced on the T and L series; on the thin X1 models the memory is soldered to the board. We replace the battery before the machine leaves us if it does not have enough capacity left.
That is the TrackPoint, which lets you move the pointer without taking your hands off the keys. It has been there since 1992 and has never been removed because the people who use it do not want to lose it. The touchpad works as normal, so you need not use it if you would rather not.
That is exactly what it is built for. The chassis has a magnesium frame, the hinges are tested over thousands of open and close cycles and many models have a keyboard that can take a spilled drink. The X series weighs around a kilo, the T series a little more.
They come out of company lease cycles, usually after three to four years. We select on age, technical condition and performance, and for each machine you can see the generation and the processor. Every model with us runs Windows 11, so they are recent enough for official support.
Yes. Newer ThinkPads work with a USB-C dock, which brings power, screens and network over a single cable. Older models also have a connector on the underside for a fixed dock. Have a look at docking stations to see what fits your model.
